What is a Liver Surgery?

liver-surgery

A portion of the liver that has cancer is surgically removed. There are various surgical procedures for liver cancer. The only realistic possibility of curing liver cancer at this time is surgery, either with resection (removal of the tumour) or a liver transplant. If all liver cancer is successfully eliminated, your prognosis is excellent.

Partial Liver Removal:

Partial hepatectomy refers to surgery to remove a portion of the liver. For a solitary tumour that has not developed into blood vessels, this surgery is a possibility. It is only a possibility for people who are healthy enough for surgery and have normal liver function.

Liver Transplantation:

For some persons with small liver malignancies, a liver transplant may be their best option if one is available. Currently, liver transplants may be a possibility for those who have tumours that cannot be removed surgically due to their location or because the patient's liver is too ill to tolerate having part of it removed. The danger of developing a second liver cancer is considerably decreased with a transplant, and the new liver will also function correctly.
